QR code for a PDF

A QR code cannot hold a PDF. It holds a link, and the link opens the PDF. That sounds like a detail, but it is the reason so many PDF codes break: someone uploads a new version, the file gets a new address, and the old printed code now leads to an error.

Host the PDF somewhere you control with a stable address, like your own website or a cloud drive link set to "anyone with the link can view". Then use a dynamic code. When the brochure gets updated, upload the new file, paste the new link into ScanStill, and every printed copy opens the new version.

Keep the PDF small. Under 5 MB opens quickly on mobile data. Compress images before exporting.

Print tips

  • Check sharing settings in a private browser window before printing. If it asks you to sign in, it will ask your customers too.
  • Name the file clearly. People save PDFs, and "final_v7.pdf" in their downloads folder helps nobody.
  • For long documents, a web page usually reads better on a phone than a PDF.

Logo (optional)

The logo covers the center 20% and we switch to the highest error correction so the code still scans.

Fill in the fields to enable downloads.

Static code. Free, unlimited, never expires. The content is baked into the pattern.

Going to print? A dynamic code lets you count scans and change the link later without reprinting.

QR codes for pdfs: questions

Can I upload my PDF to ScanStill?

We do not host files. Upload it to your website or a cloud drive and point your code at that link. That keeps you in control of the file.

What happens when I update the PDF?

If the link stays the same, nothing changes. If the new version has a new link, update the destination of your dynamic code and printed copies follow.

Why does my PDF code ask people to sign in?

The file's sharing settings are private. Set them so anyone with the link can view.
