QR code for product packaging

Packaging is the longest-lived print you will ever make. A box sits in a warehouse, on a shelf, then in someone's closet for years. If the QR code on it points to a URL that later moves, every unit already shipped now has a broken code on it.

This is where an expiring dynamic code does real damage. If the QR provider stops redirecting because a plan lapsed or a trial ended, thousands of boxes break at once and there is no recall for that. ScanStill codes keep redirecting as long as ScanStill exists, and we have committed to 12 months notice and a redirect handoff if that ever changes.

Good destinations: setup instructions, a short video, the reorder page, warranty registration, or ingredient and safety details that may need updating.

Print tips

  • Check the code survives your print process. Flexo printing on kraft board can blur fine detail, so go larger.
  • Avoid placing the code over a fold or seam.
  • Print the plain URL too. A customer five years from now may have a scratched box.

Logo (optional)

The logo covers the center 20% and we switch to the highest error correction so the code still scans.

Static code. Free, unlimited, never expires. The content is baked into the pattern.

Going to print? A dynamic code lets you count scans and change the link later without reprinting.

QR codes for product packaging: questions

What if I redesign my website after the boxes ship?

Change the destination of the dynamic code to the new page. Every box already in the world follows the new link.

Should I use SVG or PNG for packaging?

SVG. It is a vector file, so it stays sharp at any size and your printer or designer can drop it into the dieline without resampling.

How long will the code work?

As long as ScanStill exists. If we ever wind down, we promise 12 months notice, a full export, and an option to hand your redirects to another host.
